As a fleet of Martian spacecraft surrounds the world's major cities, humanity holds its collective breath, wondering if the extraterrestrial visitors have indeed come in peace. The United States is no exception, with President James Dale (Jack Nicholson) and his advisors scrambling to respond to the sudden and unprecedented invasion. Initially, the Martians appear to be benevolent, broadcasting a message of goodwill and showering the Earth's cities with gifts. However, it soon becomes clear that their intentions are far from peaceful. The Martians begin to wreak havoc on human civilization, using their advanced technology to destroy major landmarks and infrastructure, while also targeting key government officials and world leaders. As chaos erupts across the globe, President Dale finds himself struggling to maintain order and coordinate a response to the crisis. His efforts are hampered by his own personal demons, as well as the incompetence of his advisors. Meanwhile, a group of ordinary Americans, including a wise-cracking diner owner (Pam Grier) and a pair of bumbling brothers (Nathan Lane and Casey Siemaszko), must band together to survive the Martian onslaught. As the situation spirals out of control, President Dale is forced to confront his own mortality and the very real possibility that humanity may not be worthy of salvation. In a desperate bid to salvage what's left of human civilization, he sets his sights on defeating the Martians in an all-out battle for Earth's survival. Mars Attacks! is a loving send-up of classic sci-fi B-movies, with a healthy dose of dark humor and satire thrown in for good measure. The film's colorful characters, wacky plot twists, and over-the-top action sequences make it a wildly entertaining ride from start to finish.
